Moving to a new home can be exciting but it can also be quite stressful, especially while you’re still in the packing process. It can even become more stressful when you’re packing oddly-shaped items. That’s why you will need to think strategically and creatively when dealing with these items.
To help you start with your packing process, we have prepared some simple packing tips that can help you pack oddly-shaped items with ease.
Think About Your Safety
Safety should always be your top priority. Most oddly-shaped items have pointy edges and protruding parts that can cause harm to you and your family. That’s why, when packing these items, make sure to cover them with additional padding to avoid causing injuries to anyone.
We suggest using a double-wall corrugated box when packing fragile and irregular-shaped items.
Consider Your Convenience
Always consider disassembling large objects that can waste a lot of storage space. The same goes for oddly-shaped items. Make sure to disassemble them to their smallest pieces.
Watch Out For Mirrors
It’s not hard to pack rectangular, circular, or square-shaped mirrors. The real problem occurs when you’re dealing with oddly-shaped mirrors with too many curves or pointy edges.
Mirrors need extra protection and a lot of care. Make use of flat and padded cartons and use them as additional protection for your mirrors. And if your mirror has a lot of pointy edges or curves, cover them with thick cardboard or Styrofoam so no one gets accidentally hurt.
When placing them in a box or a storage container, cover them with bubble wrap first to protect the glass from breaking. You can also use this method when dealing with irregular-shaped artworks and other precious materials.
Make sure to put them on top of your other items or avoid placing other heavy items on top of them.
Circular And Round Objects
For objects with spaces inside like pots, vases, ceramics, etc. make sure to put paper or other cushioning materials to fill them in.
Now, wrap them with craft paper to prevent scratches and cracks. Also, for these kinds of objects, make sure that you use the correct size box to store them in to avoid bulging.
For long and cylindrical items, wrap them with craft paper and tape. You can also use boxes that are specifically made for these types of items like single-wall cardboard boxes. But if you don’t have one, you can always use ropes and ties to keep them in place and avoid rolling off while on the move.
Don’t Forget To Label Everything
ALWAYS put a label on each box. Label boxes that contain items that easily break off as “FRAGILE” or “Handle with Care”. Also, don’t forget to put the names of what material is inside the box so you won’t have to open every single box if you want to find them and use them.
